Our story
Founded on a change in the law, in 1965.
Prince Charters was founded in 1965 by Captain Doug's grandfather, Rev. Gilbert Prince, rector of St. James in South Pasadena. He led a group of clergy who persuaded California's legislature to legalize scattering ashes at sea, so the memorial service isn't something the company added later. It's the reason the company exists.
Today
Third-generation, still family-run.
Today, Captain Doug Prince and Donna Prince run Prince Charters together. Doug captains the boat; Donna books and coordinates every service personally. She's named in nearly every review the family has received. The crew includes Captain Jimmy and first mates Gabriel, Aaron, and Jack.
